Event Details

AustCham Hong Kong's CPI & Sustainability Committees invites members and guests to join us for an exclusive fireside chat and presentation from visiting world renowned expert in carbon reduction in infrastructure projects, Lewis Barlow.

Lewis is the Head of Profession โ€“ Decarbonisation, Sustainability, & Climate Change, WSP UK.He is alsoICE Trustee for Carbon & Climate and Decarbonisation Technical Director at WSP UK. He provides expert advice on whole life decarbonisation for local authorities, developers and governments at the highest level. With over 25 years' experience of managing environmental risk and minimising whole life carbon, Lewis is responsible for many internationally recognised advances in addressing the climate crisis.

Join this timely event that will explore the critical role of decarbonising infrastructure in achieving global and local climate goals. The session will focus on strategies, technologies, and policies to reduce carbon emissions in the construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure systems and the built environment. Attendees will gain insights into innovative solutions, best practices, and collaborative approaches to drive sustainable development and meet net-zero targets.

Lewis will highlight the critical role of PAS 2080: Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure in driving global decarbonisation efforts. As the world grapples with the urgent need to mitigate climate change, PAS 2080 provides a robust framework for managing carbon across the entire infrastructure value chain. This session will explore how PAS 2080 facilitates the reduction of carbon emissions through a systematic approach that integrates carbon management into infrastructure planning, design, construction, and operation.

Lewis will share insights on the international uptake of PAS 2080, highlighting successful implementations of the approach in the UK, Sweden, and Australia. These examples will demonstrate how the whole life carbon management process has enabled these countries to make significant strides towards their national net zero targets. The presentation will also address the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing PAS 2080 in different regions, emphasising the importance of collaboration among stakeholders.

Lewis will also outline the broader initiatives of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and industry best practices for decarbonisation. He will provide an overview of ICE's efforts to promote sustainable infrastructure development and the role of civil engineers in leading the transition to a low-carbon future. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge on how to leverage PAS 2080 to achieve meaningful emissions reductions and support sustainable economic growth.

This talk is particularly relevant for those who are committed to advancing decarbonisation in the built environment. By the end of the session, participants will have a deeper understanding of PAS 2080 and its potential to transform the future of civil and infrastructure engineering.
